New Delhi, April 20: Days after Maharashtra Minister Pankaja Munde drew flak for clicking selfies while on a visit to drought-hit Marathwada, it is Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav's turn now.

At a time when there is severe water crisis within the country and many states including Uttar Pradesh are reeling under the drought, thousands of litres of water have been wasted by the officials of Akhilesh Yadav.

UP CM faces flak for wasting water

Reportedly, gallons of litres of water were wasted to make a makeshift helipad for UP CM in drought-hit Lalitpur. Ironically, Akhilesh Yadav had gone to review drought situation and check ongoing relief work in Lalitpur, an area in Bundelkhand region which is facing severe water crisis.

Promising that his government would make a separate provision in the state budget, Yadav slammed Centre over the issue. He also accused Modi government for doing nothing for poor people of the country.

Akhilesh was quoted as saying, "Due to drought, the situation of Bundelkhand is not good but Centre has turned a blind eye towards it. It did nothing for helping poor,".

Recently a similar incident had taken place in Maharashtra. It was alleged that thousands of litres of water were used for a make-shift helipad for Maharashtra Revenue Minister Eknath Khadse while he had gone to review drought situation in Latur district.

After facing flak from Opposition, Khadse had issued a clarification later. He had said that water used for preparing the helipad was waste from filtration plant which can't be recycled for normal use.
