Bengaluru, Oct 18: Terrorists have dumped new routes and are going back to the older ones in a bid to infiltrate into India, the Indian armed forces have learnt.

Terrorists who often use new routes to infiltrate are going back to the older ones created several years back to infiltrate into the Valley. This is being done as the focus of the security forces is particularly higher on the newer routes.

After the surgical strikes, the armed forces had found that five militants were attempting to cross over into India. It was found that they were using a route that had been abandoned by the terror groups several years back.

Intelligence Bureau officials say that this appears to be a new ploy on their part since there is enhanced security along the border after the surgical strikes.

The security forces are now identifying more such old routes. There is a constant alert along the border and what the security forces are witnessing are new techniques being adopted by the terrorists to infiltrate.

Moreover there have been several instances of ceasefire violations by Pakistan. It is found that this is when the Pakistan army is trying to provide cover fire for the terrorists attempting to cross over.

Indian officials say that this year the infiltrations have shot up. 87 foreign militants have infiltrated into the Valley. However, security forces have managed to kill 128 which includes both foreign and local militants.

The number of terrorists killed in Jammu and Kashmir this year has gone up to 128 from 70 in 2015. Statistics also reveal that out of the 128 terrorists, 120 were killed by the Indian army. The remaining 8 were killed by the local police and the CRPF.

Army officials and intelligence bureau sources say that they are preparing for a long winter this year. There is still a lot of work to be done. While they have managed to successfully bring down the number of foreign terrorists, the problem still lies with the local militants. The number of recruitments into the Hizbul Mujahideen too has gone up.

There are also incidents where local militants have been decamping with weapons after overpowering police personnel. There is a counter insurgency plan in place for both foreign and local militants, officials say. However, this would take some more time. The local militants are harder to deal with as they are well aware of the terrain.
