Teesta Setalvad's anticipatory bail extended till December 8
New Delhi, Oct 14: The Supreme Court of India has extended the stay on the arrest of Teesta Setalvad till December 8. When the matter came up for hearing on Wednesday the Supreme Court extended the anticipatory bail granted to Teesta Setalvad until December 8.
This would mean that the police will not be allowed to arrest her in the case relating to alleged misuse of funds until December 8.
Teesta and her husband had moved the Supreme Court after the Gujarat High Court had refused to grant them anticipatory bail. The Gujarat High Court had rejected their plea while observing that Teesta and her husband were not cooperating with the investigating agencies and hence they cannot take shelter under an anticipatory bail.
The Gujarat police had booked Teesta and her husband on charges of breach of trust, cheating for misusing funds.
The case was pertaining to the construction of the Museum of Resistance in the Gulbarg society at Ahmedabad. A few persons had complained that in the name of constructing this museum funds had been misappropriated by Teesta and her husband.
The complainants also alleged that Teesta had collected funds to build this museum but had ended up misappropriating funds to the tune of Rs 1.51 crore.
