Thiruvananthapuram, April 18: In a shocking incident in Thiruvananthapuram, the Principal Session's court awarded capital punishment to Nino Mathew, who was held for murdering his lover's mother-in-law and infant child on April 16, 2014.

Judge V. Shircey also sentenced Anshumathi, Nino's colleague and paramour to life sentence and imposed a fine of Rs 50 lakh each as fine. The court handed down the sentence after considering the prosecution's contention that the case fell in the 'rarest of rare' category.

The prosecution re-created the crime saying that the duo had conspired the crime, with Anshumathi's help who passed on information to him regarding the daily routine of the household.
Anshumathi also helped him identify the escape routes after committing the crime.

Before killing the mother-in-law, Nino forced her to call her son and Anshumathi's husband Lijeesh home. Lijeesh is an assistant engineer with the KSEB Limited. Nino hid behind the door and tried to hack him to death too, but was unsuccessful. Lijeesh became the prime witness to the crime.
