A man who was in his 40's was found dead on Sunday after he fell from the edge of the temple on a cliff in Tamil Nadu.
The incident happened at Thalaimalai Perumal temple. The man has been identified as Arumugam, an auto driver. Thalaimalai Perumal temple is located at around 2,400 feet high in the Trichy district of Tamil Nadu.
Arumugam fell from the cliff when he was on his third round of encircling the temple. During the current Tamil month of Purataasi, a large number of devotees visit the temple. It is learnt that the cliff had become slippery because of the incessant rain in trichy due to which Arumugam might have slipped.
The video of the entire incident has gone viral. Eyewitnesses who was recording the entire incident had no time to react. The video showed how confidently Arumugam climbed over the cliff, slipped and within seconds vanished into the deep gorge without any noise. However, Police recovered his body on Sunday afternoon.
Even though the ritual has been banned at the temple, the devotee defied it, investigators said.
