Bengaluru, Jan 1: The Karnataka Bar Council will conduct the disciplinary hearing against 8 advocates from Tamil Nadu who were suspended on the grounds of protesting against the CISF.

The decision to transfer the case from the Tamil Nadu and Puducherry Bar Council was taken by the Bar Council of India.

Following a complaint by the the Tamil Nadu and Puducherry Bar Council alleging that they were being compelled to decide in favour of the suspended advocates, the Bar Council of India transferred the hearing to Karnataka.

8 advocates had staged a protest alleging that the CISF personnel in plain-clothes had videographed the frisking of a woman advocate.

The CISF in turn lodged a complaint with the Bar Council in Tamil Nadu stating that false allegations were being made.

A three member committee was formed to hear the matter. However one of the members Rajarajan had complained that there was pressure on him to decide in favour of the advocates and also have the suspension lifted.

The Karnataka Bar Association says that they will set up a disciplinary committee to look into the matter. We will abide by the directive of the Bar Council of India, the members also stated.

This is the second time that the Karnataka Bar Council has been asked to hear a matter relating to Tamil Nadu advocates.

When a group of advocates had staged a protest by entering into the Madras High Court, the disciplinary proceedings were transferred to Karnataka by the Bar Council of India.

It may be recalled that the disproportionate assets case against Tamil Nadu Chief Minister too was heard in Karnataka.

She was convicted by the trial court, but the High Court allowed her appeal while acquitting her and three others.
