External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj on Tuesday said medical visa will be given to a Pakistani man so that his child, who is in a critical condition can be brought to India for treatment.

Swaraj's assurance came after the child's father brought the matter to her notice on Twitter.

Earlier, Irfan Shah from Balochistan had written to Swaraj, saying that the infant needs immediate treatment and had sought her intervention in the matter.

In reply, Sushma Swaraj tweeted: "We will give medical visa for his treatment in India."

In a goodwill gesture on August 15 Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj had said New Delhi will give medical visa for Pakistani patients whose requests were pending with the Indian government.

"On the auspicious occasion of India's Independence day', Ms Swaraj tweeted on Tuesday, New Delhi would grant medical visa in all bonafide cases pending with the Indian government.

The announcement was seen as a relief for patients who had not been unable to qualify for the visa because former foreign minister Sartaj Aziz wouldn't give them the recommendation letter that New Delhi had demanded.
