Suresh Kumar as BJP’s candidate for Speaker just spruced things up
The trust vote that is to be conducted at the Karnataka Legislative Assembly will not be a run of the mill dull one. The BJP has decided to spruce it up by nominating Suresh Kumar as its candidate for Speaker.
He will take on Ramesh Kumar of the Congress.
In terms of numbers the Congress-JD(S) is perched comfortably and should have no problems in electing their candidate. The BJP with 104 is 8 short of the magic mark.
The election for Speaker will be a keenly watched one as it would help in understanding whether there is any crack in the Congress-JD(S) combine. All the MLAs have been holed up in resorts and hotels and have been told that they cannot go home until the trust vote is over.
The BJP would look to get some of the disgruntled members in the Congress and JD(S) on its side.
Yeddyurappa on Wednesday said that the Congress had insulted Siddaramaiah and the Kurubas by sidelining him. This despite the fact that Siddaramaiah had won 50 seats for the party. He also said that 90 per cent of the Congress MLAs were disgruntled after the party entered into an alliance with the JD(S) and these persons were welcome to support the BJP.
