Offenses taking place despite the apex court verdict on cow vigilantism, allege Tehseen Poonawalla and Tushar Gandhi in their contempt pleas.

The Supreme Court on July 3 said incidents of cow vigilantism were unacceptable, and it was up to the states to prevent them, PTI reported. However, a bench led by Chief Justice Dipak Misra reserved its verdict on a petition seeking guidelines to curb cow vigilantism.

A bench of Chief Justice Dipak Misra and Justices A M Khanwilkar and D Y Chandrachud said this was a law and order issue and each state has to be responsible.

Akbar Khan, 28, was allegedly lynched by a group of people who accused him of smuggling cows in Alwar. Khan and his friend Aslam were taking two cows to their village in Haryana through a forested area near Lalawandi in Alwar district on Friday night when five men attacked them. Three people have been arrested in the case.
