New Delhi, Jan 29: Nearly a week after Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched "Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao" campaign, the Supreme Court on Wednesday directed search engines like Google India to strictly comply with the laws and block advertisements on sex determination.

According to media reports, the apex court said if any advertisement existed on any search engine, they should be withdrawn.

Passing the interim order, a bench of justices Dipak Misra and Prafulla C. Pant said, "If any advertisement is there on any search engine, the same shall be withdrawn forthwith by the respondent websites."

The apex court passed this order on a writ petition filed by social activist Sabu Mathew George seeking a direction to the Centre to ban such advertisements.

The court also directed that this order be put immediately on the policy page and the terms of service page by Google, Yahoo and Microsoft that they would not advertise or sponsor any advertisement which violated Section 22 of Prohibition of advertisement relating to pre-natal determination of sex (PC-PNDT) Act.
