Sunanda Pushkar death: SIT to question Pak journalist Mehr Tarar

New Delhi, March 12: In a major development, Delhi Police is all set to examine Pakistani journalist Mehr Tarar in connection with the mysterious death of the Congress leader Shashi Tharoor's wife Sunanda Pushkar.

According to TV reports, Delhi Police Commissionar BS Bassi said that if required, Shashi Tharoor will also be questioned again.

"Tarar is a relevant person in the case... If necessary, she will be examined," Delhi Police Commissioner B S Bassi said of the journalist who was said to be a close friend of Shashi Tharoor.

Tarar, 47, said she was not ready to come to India but would be happy to answer questions.

"I would like to answer any question Delhi Police have for me but I will not come to India for the probe," Tarar told an Indian news over telephone.

Asked why she was being linked to the case, Tarar said: "My biggest mistake was to respond to Sunanda on Twitter...

"If I will be concerned about anything, I will share it with Delhi Police. But no one from Delhi Police has spoken to me so far."

She said she has had no communication with the Congress MP in the past one year.

Meanwhile, the FBI has been asked to expedite viscera report.

Last year in January, peeved at being at the centre of controversy surrounding Shashi Tharoor, Mehr Tarar had claimed that she had no role in his marital discord with Sunanda Pushkar and was a "victim of conspiracy".

In July 2014, there were unconfirmed reports that Tharoor wanted to marry Mehr Tarar after giving divorce to Sunanda.

Early this in January, reports emerged that both Tharoor and Mehr Tarar had stayed together in Dubai.

52-year-old Sunanda Pushkar was found dead at a five-star hotel in New Delhi. Pushkar and Tharoor were at the centre of a raging controversy when reports emerged that she was upset over reported text and tweet messages between her husband and Tarar.
