Suicide or Murder:IAS officer DK Ravi's death mystery haunts Karnataka; massive protest in Bangalore
Bengaluru, March 17: A day after IAS officer DK Ravi's death, massive protest was held in Bangalore on Tuesday, March 17. While initial investigation hinted at suicide angle, many believe that this is a murder case.
Opposition parties-led by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Karnataka asked the state government to allow CBI to investigate the case. [IAS officer death: "Won't believe it is suicide even if God tells us"]
Speaking at the state assembly, BJP leader and former chief minister Jagadish Shettar said, "Looking at the death of the IAS officer, the chief minister should hand over the case to the CBI as it appears to be murder instead of suicide as claimed by the police."
"The state government has failed in protecting honest officials. The government should treat this case as an organised crime," Shettar added.
35-year-old DK Ravi, a 2009 batch IAS officer, was found dead in mysterious circumstances at his official residence in Bangalore on Monday, March 16.
He had been in the news after he had first taken on the very powerful sand mafia while he is in Kolar. He had also conducted several raids which had not gone down too well with the sand mafia. [IAS officer's death: Ravi was told to slow down]
He was in the news after he had taken over as additional commissioner of commercial taxes. The police say that it is too early to say if his death is connected to all this and the probe is on. His wife opened the door to discover him dead.
