Bengaluru, Oct 18: Two days after a Sub-Inspector S Jagadish of Doddaballapur police station was brutally stabbed to death by two thieves in Bengaluru Rural district, the police on Saturday, Oct 17 detained the mother and brother of the killer.

Police registered a case of murder against the killers - 24-year-old Madhu and 51-year-old Harish Babu, who have a history of burglaries, vehicle lifting and petty crimes.

Late Sub-Inspector S Jagadish

According to media reports, Raghu Krishna, the elder brother of Madhu, was held in Harihara near Davanagere while mother Thimmakka was held in Chitradurga.

Police also detained one habitual offender Santosh alias Kunte, Madhu's crime partner, from his home in Chikkabidarakallu, off Tumakuru Road. [Bengaluru: Police officer stabbed to death by thieves]

Police interrogated the trio over the whereabouts of the killers, who are absconding after the murder.

To trace the accused, police has formed five teams and they have been sent to Davanagere, Shivamogga, Chitradurga and Ballari districts.

Killers are not father and son

Earlier, it was reported that the two thieves, who killed S Jagadish were father-son duo. But the police investigation revealed that Harish Babu is the 'mentor' of Madhu.

He is allegedly the paramour of Madhu and Raghu's mother, since the time their father Krishnappa died in a road accident four years ago.

According to police, Thimmakka was also a partner in crime, as she used to sell the valuables stolen by the three notorious burglars.

All the accused are natives of Hanumantha Nagar in Bhadravathi taluk in Shivamogga district.

No bullets in Jagadish's revolver

Jagadish bled to death on Friday, Oct 16, while he was being taken to a hospital at Nelamangala, about 30 km north of this city.

Surprisingly, there were no bullets in the revolver, that Jagadish was carrying, when he was chasing the thieves, as he wanted to nab them alive, TNIE reported.

Hundreds paid tribute to Sub-Inspector S Jagadish

On Saturday, Oct 17 afternoon, the last rites of the 33-year-old late brave cop S Jagadish were performed with full state honours in Mallapura village in Magadi taluk of Ramanagar district, as hundreds of people mourned his untimely death.

His wife Ramya, 3-year-old daughter and mother Saraswathi were inconsolable. His father, Y Srinivasaiah, a retired Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) has demanded a fair probe into his son's killing.
