Steps to boost Tirumala security with Octopus Base Camp
Tirumala, July 20: Given the number of footfalls in Tirumala, steps have been taken to enhance the security with an Octopus Base Camp. DGP J.V Ramudu said that the Octopus wing at Tirumala would be following the customs and the rituals of TTD, while ensuring heightened security.
The Bhumi Pujan for the camp was performed on Monday. Constructed with an estimated cost of Rs 15 crore near the Papanasanam Road at Tirumala, the camp aims at tightening security measures at Tirumala and the surrounding parts. TTD had assigned 1.5 acres of land and also Rs 5 crore assistance towards the establishment of Octopus wing at Tirumala.
Inspecting the site, the DGP and a TTD executive officer Sambasiva Rao asserted that senior police officers will be deputed for the Octopus Wing at Tirumala.
The Octopus Base Camp construction cost Rs 5 crore.
Speaking about the Red Sanders smugglers, the DGP said that the issue required immediate attention since it has been affecting the nearby areas for the past 2 years. He further referred to the amendments in the Act to punish smugglers and said that getting caught may lead to 10-years of imprisonment and no bail.
