Just two days before Karnataka goes to polls, the Congress has alleged that the BJP's Sriramulu had allegedly paid a bribe to a Supreme Court judge to bail the Reddys out in the illegal mining case.

Sriramulu struck deal with SC judge to bail Reddy brothers out says Congress

Congress leader, Dinesh Gundu Rao said that just a day before Chief Justice of India Balakrishnan had retired, he had passed an order relating to a mining company belonging to the Reddy brothers. He also said that now several videos have been released showing how bribery deals were done between the then CJI's son-in-law, Sriramulu and the Reddy brothers.

In the video, the Congress claims, Sriramulu and middlemen Captain Reddy, Balan, Swamiji Rajnish and CJI Balakrishnan's son in law Sreenijan discussed bribe deals in order to get a favourable judgement from the Supreme Court in the Obalapuram case. The Congress claimed that these videos were shot because of the dispute that came because of non-settlement of the bribe amount.

"Despite supporting corrupt and jailed leaders in their own party, the PM comes to Karnataka and levels baseless allegations against us. This big expose has shown how corrupt Reddy-Srimarulu gang bribed the CJI. Will BJP & PM Modi answer?" asked , Dinesh Gundu Rao.

"Sriramulu is now BJP's star campaigner. We demand that PM break his silence and answer the people of Karnataka on why the Bellary gang has been brought back to loot Karnataka. We demand an immediate high level inquiry into this bribery scandal," he said.

Based on a survey's Interim Report, on 09.04.2010, the SC recommended that mining be stopped entirely in light of grave irregularities. The Congres leaders alleged that the Supreme Court gave a favorable judgement on 10.05.2010 and allowed OMC to continue its mining operations. Chief Justice Balakrishna retired the next day, on 11.05.2010.

"What led the Supreme Court to act in opposition with the Survey's recommendations? Despite 'grave irregularities' that were highlighted, how did the Supreme Court grant OMC relief and dilute the case against Janardhan Reddy," Congress leaders asked.

The Congres stated that between January and May 2010, there were a string of meetings between Janardhan Reddy, Sriramalu, Capt Reddy, Swamiji and Sriranjan, the then CJI's son in law. These meetings involved bribes of about Rs. 500 crores for the CJI of which 100 crores was paid in order to sway the Court's decision in favour of Janardhan Reddy, who is now well known for his role in multiple mining scams.

The BJP has however rubbished the claims. At a press conference addressed by Amit Shah, he was asked a question about the video. He rejected it by saying, there are so many doctored videos. There is no need to believe what the Congress is saying.
