Sr journalist Sham Rao Harnur passes away in Hyderabad
Hyderabad, Jan 12: Senior journalist and former Bureau Manager of Press Trust of India (PTI) in Hyderabad Sham Rao Harnur passed away here today after a brief illness.
He was 87. Harnur died at a private hospital in the city, according to his close relative and senior journalist P Vaman Rao.
Before joining PTI in 1952, Harnur worked in 'Rayyat' and 'Imroze', edited by Shoiabullah Khan who laid down his life in the hands of Razakar elements, and also 'Sentinel', an English daily, Vaman Rao said.
Harnur joined as a reporter in PTI and later became the Bureau Manager of the news agency in Hyderabad.
He covered a variety of fields in his illustrious career as a journalist and was respected by his colleagues and government officials for his objective and accurate reporting of events.
Harnur was held in high esteem by the then Chief Ministers of undivided Andhra Pradesh, including K Brahmananda Reddy, T Anjaiah and M Chenna Reddy, Vaman Rao recalled. Harnur is survived by wife, three daughters and two sons.
