Spicejet flight skids off runway at Calicut airport

Kozhikode is being battered by heavy rains filling the airport runway with slush

A Spicejet flight with more than 60 passengers onboard skid off the runway in Calicut airport in Kerala's Karipur on Friday morning. A major tragedy was averted by the pilot who managed to control the aircraft.

The flight was ferrying passengers from Bengaluru on Friday morning. While landing at the Calicut airport, the flight skid off towards the left of the runway that had been battered by continuous rains. The incident led to panic among those on the flight as well as airport authorities. Within seconds, the pilot was able to bring the flight under control and managed to halt it.

All passengers were evacuated unhurt while the flight was taxied away. Runway lights were damaged as the flight rammed into them. Airport emergency fire and rescue personnel, paramedics rushed to the flight were alerted as precautionary measures but none were injured during the incident.
