Spectrum Politics: Khurshid's startling revelations about 2G case

Among other things, Khurshid has pointed out that the Congress did not fight the BJP allegations before the 2014 elections as aggressively as it should have.

Former union minister Salman Khurshid has given an interesting insight into the 2G spectrum allocation cases and way judiciary handled it in his latest book 'Spectrum Politics: Unveiling the Defence'. Khurshid, who is also a former law minister, has backed Congress' argument that there was no wrongdoing in allocation of 2G licenses.

Among other things, Khurshid has pointed out that the Congress did not fight the BJP allegations before the 2014 elections as aggressively as it should have. He also says that Congress lost the 'battle of perception' in 2014 Lok Sabha elections.

Earlier this year, former Telecom Minister A Raja, DMK Rajya Sabha member Kanimozhi and other accused in the 2G spectrum allocation cases were aquitted by the Delhi High Court. Khurshid claimed that the Congress did not have much camaraderie with former Telecom Minister A Raja, one of the prime accused in the 2G scam.

In one of the most controversial things in the book, Khurshid says that on the night before the Supreme Court cancelled 122 spectrum licenses in 2012, "someone left a copy (of the judgment) at my gate in a sealed envelope."

"I was shocked, to say the least, but there was little I could do in the middle of the night. Early next morning, I was scheduled for a trip to a southern state. I went through the business of the day, but asked for updates from Delhi," he wrote in the book.

Speaking at a program on NDTV, Khurshid said that when he informed about this matter to then Chief Justice of India Justice Kapadia, the latter was 'shocked'. Justice Kapadia then assured that the matter would be examined, the former union minister said.

He said that the order leaked from a department in court which makes copies of the judgements. "Some action was taken against a clerk of the court registry," he wrote in the book.

He also wrote that Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had outwitted former President Pranab Mukherjee, reported Scroll.in. "Kejriwal and his group destroyed us completely. We had no way of knowing how to handle him," Khurshid said.

Khurshid claims that after speaking to the President, Kejriwal would come out and say something totally different in the media.

"Mukherjee once called me at 11 pm and told me 'Salman call the press and inform.' And for the first time, I was calling the press at midnight to say that Kejriwal has said something rubbish," Khurshid wrote.
