New Delhi, Nov 15: There is no doubt about the great oratory skills of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who within minutes can captivate audience with his smart one-liners.

As the Modi-government has come under fire due to severe cash crunch hitting the entire country in the wake of the demonetisation of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes, the Prime Minister is all out to quell all the "misconceptions" surrounding his boldest decision.

However, his comment, the poor are sleeping peacefully and the rich need sleeping pills, made at a mega rally in Uttar Pradesh's Ghazipur on Monday, attacking the opposition for criticising demonetisation, has backfired.

Many poor people have voiced their anger against the Prime Minister's remark.

Speaking to ANI, a person identifying himself as Bablu, said, "Modiji says the poor are sleeping peacefully and rich are taking sleeping pills, but look at us. Rich are in peace, can simply throw money."

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday attacked Modi for his remark that the "poor are enjoying sound sleep" in the wake of the demonetisation drive, saying the comments were "an insult to commoners and in bad taste".

On Sunday, the Prime Minister addressed people in Goa, Pune and Belagavi, and made an emotional appeal to the voters to give him 50 days to address their issues.

He said he took the discussion to eradicate corruption and black money from the country.
