Sorry, Babul Supriyo, stalking is not ‘mischief’, condemn it or else please shut up!
Union minister Babul Supriyo defended the son of Haryana BJP chief, involved in stalking episode in Chandigarh, by saying it was a 'mischief'.
New Delhi, August 9: What is wrong with the top most leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)? Why are they making regular sexist remarks and blatantly displaying their patriarchal mindset, post the horrific stalking and attempt to kidnap episode in Chandigarh?
Chandigarh woman Varnika Kundu who while driving her car back home on the intervening night of Friday and Saturday was followed for seven-eight kilometers by two men, Vikas Barala and Ashish Kumar. The accused also stopped Varnika's car in an attempt to allegedly abduct her.
Vikas is the son of Haryana Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) chief, Suresh Barala. It's a high profile case, as the son of a VIP belonging to the ruling party, both in the state and at the Centre, is one of the main accused.
Thus a lot of BJP leaders have ganged up to malign Varnika to save the son of one of their leaders. If on one hand top BJP leaders are maintaining silence surrounding the whole incident, others are busy indulging in victim-shaming.
The latest BJP leader to attack Varnika is singer-turned-politician and union minister in the Narendra Modi cabinet, Babul Supriyo. Read his tweet one by one, like us you would also wonder why the nation has to bear such sexist, patriarchal and power-drunk minister.
First, Supriyo wants us to think "rationally" when evidence clearly shows Vikas and his friend stalked the woman for seven-eight kilometers , then dared to stop her car and tried to open its door to bring her out.
Thankfully, the police came on time and arrested the duo. However, because of their influence and power the accused got bail and the police failed to register the case under the non-bailable offences--like Section 341 (wrongful restraint), 365 (kidnapping with intent to confine) and others.
1/many:Guys, think rationally🤔A guy chases a girl- he's drunk!Deplorable👎🏿But why charge him with 'Abduction' etc without investigation?

Then in his second tweet, Supriyo took one step further to call stalking and harassment as mere "mischief" to save the "neta" father of the accused. Supriyo did a Mulayam Singh Yadav, who a few years ago in order to defend rapists said "boys will be boys".
The union minister thought that the media is calling "mischief" as "stalking" to get better headlines. That is the problem with the BJP people. They use the media as per their convenience.
If the media reports on "achievements" of the Modi sarkar, they showcase paper clippings of the news everywhere, if the media dares to take on the government and its people, then the BJP gets busy targeting the media.
We are fine with the media bashing as by now most of the journalists have become thick-skinned and can easily withstand the trolls. What amazes is that the union minister with his caustic remark stated that BJP leader's son was targeted to give justice to Indian beti (daughter). Yes, Mr Supriyo, the "desh ki beti" (the country's daughter) needs justice and even if the accused is the son of a powerful man, the law should take its course to punish him.
2/many:Why drag his father in2 it? Just cuz a Neta's son's mischief make better headlines?"Desh ki Beti ko insaaf chahiye?" etc etc! Why?

Then in the third tweet he cried foul as people blamed the police for giving bail to the alleged stalkers easily.
3/many:If investigations reveal the guy guilty of nonbailable offences, law exists&it wil prevail but taint the men in uniforms prematurely?

In his last tweet in the series attacking Varnika, the minister targeted those who condemned the stalking, but failed to criticise other cases. Instead of appreciating that people are condemning a horrific incident that happened to a woman in the streets of a fairly safer city like Chandigarh, Supriyo was uncomfortable that voices were being raised against stalking.
4/many:why r'nt the sm JusticeSeekers raising voices for the youngster hacked 2 death in Kerala or the 61yr old woman raped&killed in WB 2?

Supriyo, as we have already said, is not alone in indulging in victim-shaming. Haryana BJP vice president Ramveer Bhatti blamed the victim for the "shocking" incident as she was out on the road late in the night.
"Why was she allowed to roam around at night? Parents should not allow their children to stay out late...what is the point of roaming around at night?" questioned Bhatti.
One more high-profile BJP leader, Shaina NC, in spite of being a woman herself decided to blame Varnika--for coming out in the open and report about the injustice done to her-- by indicating that the 29-year-old DJ and daughter of an Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer has some sinister motive to accuse the son of a VIP.
Shaina tweeted, "So called victim Beti with Vikas Barala'' and that the now famous Chandigarh stalking case of Varnika Kundu, who accused Haryana BJP chief Subhash Barala's son Vikas Barala of stalking her at midnight in the streets of Chandigarh is only as true as the news about Jasleen Kaur and Rohtak Sisters." The tweet was lifted from a Supreme Court lawyer's tweet.
After she was criticised for her tweet, Shaina deleted it. Then the BJP spokesperson claimed that her Twitter account was hacked and requested all to ignore the tweets from her handle.
We wonder, when will our "netas" get some sense, till then we would suggest them to keep quiet, instead of making it their habit of trolling victims.
