Solar eclipse 2021: Cities around the world witness Surya Grahan
New Delhi, Dec 04: The last and final solar eclipse of the year graced the sky today when the moon moved between the Sun and Earth for one last time this year.
The astronomical event began at 10:59 am. During eclipse, the Moon blocks the Sun's light in the southern hemisphere, casting a shadow in some areas on Earth. Antarctica will be the only place on Earth to experience a full solar eclipse as the Sun, Moon, and our planet will fall in a direct line.

However, it is said that one should eat at least two hours before an eclipse. Pregnant women are advised not to venture outside the home during solar eclipse. They should stay indoors during the Sutak period. By doing this, the harmful rays of the sun do not affect the woman and the foetus.
What is a total and partial Solar Eclipse?
A Total Solar Eclipse happens when the New Moon passes directly between the Sun and the Earth, casting the deepest part of the Moon's shadow, the umbra, on Earth.
During a partial solar eclipse, the Moon, the Sun and Earth don't align in a perfectly straight line, and the Moon casts only the outer part of its shadow, the penumbra, on Earth.
