Sohrabuddin's brother moves Bombay High Court against Vanzara's discharge

Sohrabuddin Sheikh's brother has moved the Bombay High Court against a special CBI court's order discharging IPS officer (retd) D G Vanzara in the encounter case. The petition challenges the lower court's decision letting off former Gujarat ATS chief D G Vanzara and Rajasthan IPS officer Dinesh MN.

Rubabuddin Sheikh approached the high court on Monday after a special CBI court discharged the duo citing lack of evidence in the alleged fake encounter case. The police officers were discharged last week after a long legal battle.

"There is sufficient evidence on record to establish that Sohrabuddin was abducted, kept in wrongful confinement. There is also evidence that his aide Tulsidas Parajapati and he were killed in a fake encounter," said Rubabuddin in his petition.

The petition has been admitted but the court is yet to give a date for hearing the same. The police officers were arrested after the CBI said that Sohrabuddin, a gangster with alleged links to Pakistani terror group Lashkar-e-Taiba, and his wife Kausar Bi, were abducted by the Gujarat Anti-Terrorist Squad from Hyderabad when the couple was on their way to Sangli in Maharashtra.

The CBI in its report claimed that Sohrabuddin Sheikh was killed in an alleged fake encounter near Gandhinagar in November 2005, after which his wife disappeared.

Prajapati, Sheikh's aide and an eyewitness to the alleged encounter, was later killed by police at Chapri village in Gujarat's Banaskantha district in December 2006, the Central agency claimed.
