Siachen 'braveheart' soldier Lance Naik Hanumanthappa passes away
Bengaluru, Feb 11: After battling for life for almost 10 days, Siachen 'braveheart' soldier Lance Naik Hanumanthappa passed away on Thursday at 11.45 am, while undergoing treatment at Delhi's Research & Referral Army hospital.

In morning, Lance Naik Hanumanthappa Koppad had slipped into a deep coma. There was an evidence of oxygen deprivation to the brain. Lance Naik Hanumanthappa had been put on life support and his condition had worsened despite being put on maximum life support and also aggressive therapy a medical bulletin, yesterday had said. [From UP to Mumbai, people offer to donate organs for Siachen survivor]
A statement from the army read that his pneumonia has worsened and he has slipped into a deeper coma. Lance Nail Koppad had spent six days buried under ice at the Siachen Glacier. Of the ten soldiers who died during avalanche in Siachen on Feb 3, three were from Karnataka-- Subedar Nagesha T T, a resident of Tejur village, Hassan district, Lance Naik Hanamanthappa Koppad, a resident of Betadur village, Dharwad district (who passed away today) and a Sepoy Mahesha P N, a resident of H D Kote village, Mysore district. Other four were from Tamil Nadu, one each from Kerala, Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra.
