More than a year after Siachen braveheart Hanumanthappa Koppad was martyred, the Karnataka government fulfilled its promise of allocating land to the family. Land documents were handed over to Mahadevi Koppad on Monday at the tahsildar office near Kundagol in Hubballi-Dharwad.

Mahadevi Koppad

An ecstatic Mahadevi Koppad sent OneIndia pictures from the Tahsildar office showing the local MLA handing over land documents to her.

"Promises made to a martyr's family should be fulfilled immediately and I am glad that the government, as well as the local MLA, have extended all support to our family. I am confident that some promises that are pending will be fulfilled soon," she said at the event.

Talking to OneIndia later, Mahadevi said that she was confident that the government will fulfill all promises made to her and her family. "I am proud of the government for keeping up its promise to the martyr's family. I am confident that all promises will be kept. Our MLA has been a great support," she said.

Hanumanthappa Koppad's wife has been given a 4-acre land in Mattigatti village.

"As per the government's promise, we have already allotted a site in Hubballi and Rs 25 lakh in compensation to Hanumanthappa's family. We are now handing over the 4-acre land and will soon fulfil promises of naming Hubballi main road in Hanumanthappa's honour and ensuring a government job for his wife," MLA Shivalli said.

The land documents were handed over during a meet in the Tahsildar office where the leaders of Kundagol panchayat were also present.

Hanumanthappa Koppad's wife

OneIndia had run a campaign for the martyr's family reminding the government of the promises that it had made. Two weeks after our campaign, the government claimed that the Bronze statue of Hanumanthappa Koppad was in its final stages of sculpting and would be installed at his memorial in April.

Three weeks after OneIndia's campaign, the family has been given 4-acre land as promised. While appreciating the government for its efforts, we at OneIndia hope that the promise of a job to Hanumanthappa's wife is also fulfilled at the earliest.
