New Delhi, June 11: Former Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and Delhi MLA Kapil Mishra has demanded a cut in chief minister Arvind Kejriwal's salary over low attendance in the state Assembly.

Talking to ANI, the rebel AAP leader said, "The CM's attendance is less than 10 per cent in the state Assembly and he totally missed special sessions for full statehood and sealing. He was there for two hours only."

"It's an insult to the votes people of Delhi have given. If he isn't attending the Assembly his salary should be cut," added Mishra.

Mishra said that the Delhi High Court should give direction to Kejriwal that he should be attending the Delhi Assembly session regularly. "It should also give direction to the Lieutenant Governor and the Speaker of the Assembly to ensure that the CM is attending the session," he added.

Last year, Mishra created a huge controversy after he labelled corruption allegations against AAP convener Kejriwal and Delhi minister Satyender Jain. Mishra was later removed from the party by Kejriwal.

Recently, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) invited Mishra to join the saffron party. However, Mishra is yet to take a call in this regard.

Former minister of youth affairs and sports and BJP leader Vijay Goel met the former AAP leader and said, "The BJP's doors have been open for him since he parted ways with the AAP. Now he has to take a decision."

The issue of cut in salary of elected representatives created a lot of furore earlier this year when the Budget session of Parliament was washed out over protests by opposition parties. Several members of the ruling BJP stated that those who did not allow Parliament to run should be punished with salary cut.
