The suicide of tainted former Director General Corporate Affairs, BK Bansal, and his son at their residence in Delhi on Tuesday has brought the focus on the country's premier investigative agency, CBI, and the way it handles its cases.

In fact, just two months earlier, Bansal's wife and daughter committed suicide at their residence after he was arrested by the CBI in July.

The investigative agency has come under the scanner as the suicide notes left behind by father and son have levelled allegations of harassment by CBI officials.

Police officials told reporters that two suicide notes--a five-page one written by Bansal and a two-page note by his son Yogesh--were recovered from their flat at Neelkanth Apartments.

Police added copies of the suicide notes were immediately sent to the CBI, as Bansal and his son had allegedly accused four officers of the agency, including a DIG-rank official, of "harassing" them.

"We have initiated inquest proceedings under Section 174 of CrPC... no case has been registered so far," said Deputy Commissioner of Police (east district) Rishi Pal.

Police said Bansal's son Yogesh (31) has named some CBI officers in his suicide note and alleged that they had been "harassing" him and his father. "The actual handwritten suicide notes haven't been found yet," police said.

However, a CBI spokesperson said Yogesh was neither an accused nor was he summoned by the agency in connection with the case.

Bansal was arrested by the CBI for allegedly accepting bribe from a prominent pharmaceutical company on July. The investigative agency raided eight locations in connection with the case and recovered unaccounted cash. However, Bansal was later released on bail in August.

In separate suicide notes left by Bansal's wife and daughter, they say the "CBI raid" caused "great humiliation" and they did not want to live after that, reports PTI.
