New Delhi, July 19: The Shiv Sena, which shares an uneasy relationship with ally Bharatiya Janata Party on Thursday said it will not back the no-confidence motion moved by the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) against the NDA government at the Centre. The party has issued a whip for its MPs to be present during voting that will take place on Friday.

The development comes a day prior to the crucial voting that is slated to be taken up in Parliament tomorrow. Notably, there are currently 18 Shiv Sena MPs in Lok Sabha. The no-trust motion was moved by the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) against the Narendra Modi government at the Centre on Wednesday.

Reportedly, BJP chief Amit Shah spoke to ally Shiv Sena, after its leader Sanjay Raut said Uddhav Thackeray will decide which way their 18 lawmakers will vote.

Uddhav Thackeray is expected to convey his decision to his partymen in the evening.

The motion will be the first since the BJP-led NDA government came to power four years ago. Speaker Sumitra Mahajan's decision to accept the motion moved by former BJP ally TDP and others came on the first day of the Monsoon session.

Earlier, Union Minister Anant Kumar had expressed confidence that Shiv Sena will vote against the opposition's no confidence motion that Prime Minister Narendra Modi's government will face on Friday.

"The NDA is united and will vote against the motion." the union minister said on Wednesday, responding to repeated questions about the Shiv Sena's stand in Friday crucial vote.

Speaker Sumitra Mahajan's decision to accept the motion moved by former BJP ally TDP and others came on the first day of the Monsoon session.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister and TDP president N Chandrababu Naidu had sought the support of other parties for the motion, citing the NDA government's "non-fulfilment of the promise" to grant special status to his state.

The central government is comfortably placed in the Lok Sabha and there is no risk to its survival. The ruling NDA has 313 members in the 535-member Lok Sabha including the BJP's 274, a lot more than the 268 that it needs to clear the test.
