@shammiwitness case- Nationwide operation commences, Police verifying tweets
Bengaluru, Dec 18: It appears as though a nation wide investigation is taking place in the @shammiwitness case. Anyone who has interacted with Mehdi Masroor Biswas on his mail or Twitter handle is being questioned as the police seek clues on whether he had any connection with Indians.
The police are verifying and analyzing the 1,30,000 tweets that are present on his handle. Every tweet is being analysed an officer informed OneIndia.
We are also looking into mails, the officer said while also adding that they are going to seek an extension of his remand in police custody which ends today.
Country wide operation
Although nothing very concrete has been made out by any of the agencies regarding his direct India link, various persons have been questioned. In Mysore, four youths were questioned two days back.
Today the Madhya Pradesh ATS is questioning three more persons and on Wednesday, Dec 18 two from Dharwad in Karnataka were also probed to find out if they had anything to do with Biswas.
All these persons who were questioned are said to have either interacted with Biswas on Twitter. There has been nothing specific relating to any operation or recruitment process, officers point out.
However they also add that they want to be doubly sure if these messages were more than just general interactions.
Ask what you want
Meanwhile Biswas during his questioning has been telling the police that he has done no wrong. Since last Saturday, he has been saying the same thing that he had just retweeted information that he found on the web.
"Ask me what you want and check what you please," he told the police.
"I have always maintained that I have done no wrong and you are free to check anything you want. I would have tried escaping or running away had I done anything wrong. I was in my house the entire day after the story broke which itself is an indication that I had no intention to abscond," Biswas says very confidently to the police.
