Senior DMK leader relieved of post of district secretary
Chennai, June 10: In a minor post-poll shake-up among the ranks, DMK today relieved its senior leader and former union minister S Gandhiselvan as the party's District Secretary of Namakkal East.
Party General Secretary K Anbazhagan said that Gandhiselvan, a former minister of State for Health, was being 'relieved' as DMK's District Secretary of Namakkal East and was being replaced with P Elangovan for the party affairs to run "promptly."
In a statement, Anbazhagan also announced replacing the party's District Secretaries of Coimbatore North and Tirunelveli West, M Veeragopal and PK Durairaj, respectively.
M Muthusamy is District Secretary for Coimbatore North while Siva Padmanabhan has been appointed for Tirunelveli North, Anbazhagan said and appealed to the party functionaries to jointly work with the new appointees.
In the Dravidian parties' rank structure, District Secretaries are considered key in the organisational hierarchy and are known to wield considerable amount of clout in the respective district units.
