Self-styled godman Acharya Shantisagar Maharaj arrested on charges of rape
Shantisagar Maharaj allegedly raped the girl when she had gone to a Digambar Jain temple in Nanpura.
Self-styled godman Acharya Shantisagar Maharaj was arrested from the Surat on Saturday evening on charges of rape.
According to ANI, the godman was arrested after a 19-year-old girl filed a complaint on October 1, accusing him of rape.
Shantisagar Maharaj allegedly raped the girl when she had gone to a Digambar Jain temple in Nanpura.
The 19-year-old girl, who is a student, is a native of Madhya Pradesh and studying in a college in Vadodara.
According to reports, some people of the Jain community tried to defend the godman and claimed that the victim was trying to malign him.
The arrested was reportedly made after the rape was confirmed by a medical test.
