SC says only RO purified water to be offered to Ujjain Mahakaleshwar temple
The Supreme Court on Friday had set new norms for devotees to worship at the Jyotirlinga Mahakaleshwara temple in Madhya Pradesh's Ujjain.
Devotees would now be banned from offering milk and curd to the stone Shiv Lingam instead allowed to offer only half a litre of RO (reverse osmosis) water as 'jalabhishek'.
These recommendations came from a committee of experts formed by the court that visited the Mahakaleshwar temple in Ujjain which recommended the restrictions on certain offerings by devotees to save the idol.
The top court, which had been approached by Ujjain resident Sarika Guru, had asked the temple authorities to come up with its action plan. Eight of the ten points have been accepted by the court. It is yet to take a call on the other two recommendations.
