SC notice to NIA on Purohit’s plea against being under UAPA in Malegaon blasts case
The Supreme Court has issued notices to the National Investigation Agency among others on a plea filed by Colonel Srikant Purohit in the Malegaon blasts case. The court also issued notices to the Maharashtra government.
Purohit had sought discharge in the case that was filed under the provisions of the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA).
Purohit had gone in appeal after a special NIA court had rejected his plea. While the court had dropped the stringent provisions of the MCOCA against him and others, it however rejected the plea to be tried under the UAPA.
The court had said that they would be tried under the UAPA and other charges under the Indian Penal Code.
