Sankararaman case: Court says investigators acted in undue haste
Puducherry, Nov 27: With the prosecution unable to prove the the conspiracy theory or the very motive of the crime, the court on Wednesday acquitted all 23 accused in the controversial Sankararaman murder case.
The court rebuked the prosecution who couldn't prove the conspiracy theory, which is supposedly the very base of the entire case, or submit any corroborating evidence. The court remarked that the police who investigated the case 'acted in an undue haste'.
Around 83 crucial witnesses had turned hostile and there were no supporting eye-witnesses too. Sankararaman's wife had earlier failed to identify the accused in the identification parade, said the seers' lawyer.
In a major blow to the prosecution side, Ravi Subrahmaniam, an approver in this case, had turned hostile in 2012.
Protests erupt
Meanwhile, Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi, a political party in Tamil Nadu, staged protests in the court premises. Justice has been denied for Sankararaman, they said. Sankararaman's family too expressed disappointment at the verdict.
