Mumbai, March 21: After spending 42 months in jail in connection with the 1993 Mumbai serial bomb blasts case, Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt recalled his days in the prison and what it did to him.

Speaking at a conclave last week, Dutt said: "A jail term doesn't only take away your physical freedom. It imprisons your thought processes. You're no longer free to sit how you want, stand how you want."

Sanjay Dutt to work for jail reforms?

Dutt said that prison protocol needed drastic reforms and said that he was working towards those. Recalling certain archaic laws, he said that everytime an officer came for rounds, he and the other prisoners were made to squat on the ground like bonded labourers.

He goes on to add that space is the biggest problem there. He recalls incidents of brawls during night time among inmates for changing their sleeping positions.

Dutt said that contrary to the the belief that he was given special VIP treatment in the jail, he was infact treated worse than a normal inmate. "The worse thing about jail was the food, it was terrible and not edible at all," he said.

Meanwhile, now that he is free, Dutt has shown keen interest in working towards reforms in prison protocol with the government.
