New Delhi, Feb 28: After Prime Minister Narendra Modi ignited a 'communal' debate by making the kabristan-shamshaan remark in poll-bound Uttar Pradesh recently, it's the turn of controversial Bharatiya Janata Party leader Sakshi Maharaj to add fuel to the 'burning' issue.

According to the BJP leader, every dead body should be cremated, irrespective of whether a person is a Muslim or a Hindu. The practice of burying is followed by Muslims and Hindus cremate their dead ones.

"Chaahe naam kabristan ho, chaahe shamshan ho, daah hona chahiye, kisi ko gaadne ki aveshyakta nahin hai (Whether it is a graveyard or a crematorium, the dead should be cremated, there is no need to bury anyone," Maharaj was quoted as saying by ANI on Tuesday.

He added that as burying people requires more space thus it must be avoided. "2-2.5cr sadhu hain sabki samadhi lage kitni zameen jayegi, 20cr Muslims hain sabko kabr chahiye Hindustan mein jagah kahan milegi (There are 2-2.5 crore priests, if you make a samadhi for each one, how much space will it take? There are 20 crore Muslims, if each one of them has to be buried, where is the space for it in India)."

"If a graveyard is built in a village, so should there be a cremation ground. If there is electricity in Ramzan, it should also be there on Diwali; there should be no discrimination," the PM said at an election rally in UP recently.
