Safety of Indians around the world is of highest priority: MEA
With the White House finally reacted to the killing of Hyderabad engineer Srinivasa Kuchibhotla in Kansas, the Ministry of External Affairs on Wednesday said 'safety of Indians world over is of highest priority for the government'.
MEA spokesperson Gopal Baglay told news agency ANI that the government will engage with the authorities across the globe to ensure safety of Indians residing abroad.
Earlier, US President Donald Trump condemned the incident and said that racial and religious attacks have no place in the United States.
A White House statement said that Trump prayed for the speedy recovery of those wounded in the attack.
The much needed reaction from President Trump came six days after the incident.
Srinivasa was shot dead at a bar in Kansas by on February 22 by a US Navy veteran. His friend and another American who tried to save them was also wounded in the attack.
The attacker, Adam Purinton, had got into an argument with the victims and hurled racial slurs. He yelled 'Get out of my country' and 'terrorist' before shooting them.
