New Delhi, Nov 18: Running is a fundamental right and we cannot stop people from doing it. The observation was made by the Supreme Court while hearing a petition seeking a ban on the Airtel Half Marathon in Delhi citing pollution concerns.
The petitioner said that since Delhi was polluted, the marathon must be stopped. He also said that pollution will affect the runners and hence a directive to stall the marathon be issued.
While rejecting the plea, the court observed that it could not stop people from running. If today we tell them not to run, tomorrow you will ask us to stop them from walking. Running is a fundamental right, the court observed while the rejecting the petition.
