RML Chief Health Officer calls for individual participation to combat Dengue, Chikungunya

Dr. Gadpaile of RML Hospital pointed out how cooperation is required at the individual level to curb the problem.

In light of the outbreak of vector-borne diseases in the National Capital, OneIndia approached Chief Health Officer Dr. AK Gadpaile of Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital in New Delhi to talk about the causes and precautions of such diseases.

This, however, is not the first time that Delhi has witnessed such a massive outbreak, last year, more than 30 people had lost their lives to Dengue and Chikungunya.

According to the National Vector Borne Disease Control Programme (NVBDCP), the number of clinically suspected Chikungunya cases in Delhi was 12279, and 283 cases of suspected Chikungunya have already been reported this year.

Not just Chikungunya, 4431 cases of Dengue were also reported and 10 was the death toll in 2016. This year is no different, already 496 cases of Dengue have been reported.

The outbreak of vector borne diseases has now become recurring in the National Capital, and in spite of the Delhi Government's promise of curbing the outbreak, the reality on ground appears to be different.

Dr. Gadpaile of RML Hospital pointed out how cooperation is required at the individual level to curb the problem, he said, "The Government or the authority alone cannot solve the problem, initiative should be taken even at an individual level."

He also spoke about the initial symptoms of the diseases and how to prevent from contracting the same.

Apart from Dengue and Chikungunya, he also spoke about Swine flu and assured that there is nothing to be worried about.
