The protest march of the RJD came just a few days after the party's former ally, the Janata Dal (United) (JD (U)), broke away from the Mahagatbandhan (Grand Alliance) to form a fresh government in Bihar by partnering with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
The Grand Alliance was formed ahead of the 2015 Bihar Assembly elections by the RJD, the JD (U) and the Congress to fight against the might of the BJP. The alliance of the three parties proved successful as they won the elections with a thumping majority and formed the government in the state.
However, the Grand Alliance government did not last for long as the Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar decided to leave his alliance partners recently after the family members of Lalu Prasad Yadav, the chief of the RJD and father of Tejashwi and Tej Pratap, were accused of being involved in several corruption cases.
Thus, the RJD now alleges that chief of JD (U) Nitesh Kumar cheated the voters of Bihar by aligning with the same BJP against whom the mandate was given during the last assembly elections.
While speaking to the media on Wednesday, Tejashwi said that his party launched the "send back the BJP and the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) movement" to save Bihar from communal forces.
"By joining the BJP, Nitish has cheated Mahatma Gandhi (Nitish ji ne Mahatma Gandhi ko dhokha dene ka kaam kiya). From today onwards, we have started the send back the BJP and the RSS movement (Aaj ke din se hum BJP aur RSS bhagao andolan shuru karenge)," said Tejashwi.
