Restrictions imposed in parts of Srinagar

Srinagar, Nov 6: Restrictions were today imposed in parts of the city ahead of the proposed "solidarity march" by separatist groups to Jamia Masjid here.

Authorities have imposed restrictions in six police station areas of Srinagar, officials said. They said restrictions have been imposed in police Jurisdiction of Rainawari, Nowhatta, Khanyar, M R Gunj and Safakadal in downtown locality of the city and in Maisuma near Lal Chowk.

They said the decision to impose restrictions was taken in view of the apprehensions of law and order problems. Moderate Hurriyat Conference chairman Mirwaiz Umer Farooq had called for a "solidarity march" for paying tributes to Muslims killed on November 6, 1947 in Jammu region.

Many separatist leaders have either been detained or placed under house arrest in view of the proposed march today as well as a proposed parallel rally to that of the Prime Minister at Sher-e-Kashmir Cricket Stadium at Sonawar tomorrow.

Kashmir University and Board of School Education has postponed all examinations scheduled to be held today. However, Class VIII exams would be held as per schedule, officials said. Candidates, who are not able to sit in the exams today, would be allowed to write their papers later on.
