Republic Day: TN miniature artist pays tributes to Mahatma Gandhi, Netaji on mangoes

Tamil Nadu artist Raja has painted pictures of Mahatma Gandhi, Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, Bhagat Singh and others on mangoes to salute the great leaders of India's freedom struggle.

Chennai, Jan 26: Small is beautiful is the credo of Tamil Nadu artist Raja.

While India is hosting a grand celebration at the India Gate in the national capital to mark the 69th Republic Day on Friday, Raja (who only writes his first name), a miniature artist from Coimbatore, has paid tributes to freedom fighters by painting their portraits on mangoes, green ones to be precise.

The artist painted pictures of Mahatma Gandhi, Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, Bhagat Singh and others on mangoes to salute the great leaders of India's freedom struggle.

Speaking to ANI, Raja said it took him two days to paint the portraits of the freedom fighters and leaders on the fruit.

Raja's Republic Day special artworks are drawing hordes of people to his residence. When asked how he manages to paint beautiful and accurate images on any object, Raja said, "It takes a lot of patience and practice to draw and paint anything on a small object."

Raja added that whenever he sees an object he immediately starts imagining how to turn it into an artwork.

On January 26 every year, the Republic Day is celebrated across the country to honour the date on which the Constitution of India came into effect in 1950. This year is the 69th Republic Day of India.

As a part of the Republic Day celebrations, India is hosting 10 heads from Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Myanmar, Cambodia, Laos, and Brunei--as chief guests.

Over 700 students from across the guest countries will be performing at the India Gate along with the Indian Army, Air Force and Navy, to name a few, as a part of the Republic Day celebrations.
