Republic Day: Delhi police spends Rs 7 crore on CCTV cameras
To ensure fool proof security, the Delhi police has spent over Rs 7 crore to rent CCTV cameras ahead of Republic Day.
Over 600 CCTV cameras have been installed around Rajpath, India Gate, Red Fort among other places. Cameras have also been installed on those routes which would be taken by important dignitaries.
The Delhi police take these cameras on rent ahead of major events such as Independence Day and Republic Day. They are taken on rent with the help of open tenders, the police said.
The Delhi police may now approach the Home Ministry in a bid to set up these cameras permanently instead of taking them on rent. It comes up to nearly 14 crore to take these cameras on rent twice a year. It would be cheaper to set up a permanent system and hence the police would approach the ministry for funds.
The cameras depending on the sensitivity would cost anything between Rs 5,000 and Rs 1 lakh. The image quality would range between 4 to 10 megapixels.
