Bypolls 2018: Repolling in 123 polling booths of UP, Maharashtra, Nagaland today
Repolling will be held at 73 polling stations of Kairana parliamentary constituency in Uttar Pradesh, 49 polling stations in Maharashtra's Bhandara-Gondiya parliamentary constituency and one polling station in Nagaland on Wednesday, following the failure of paper trail machines on Monday's by-elections.
Earlier on Tuesday, the Election Commission ordered repolling in 73 booths of Kairana parliamentary constituency. 49 booths in Maharashtra's Gondiya Lok Sabha constituency would also go for repolling after EVM malfunctioning were reported here on Monday.
The EC agreed to the repolling recommendation made by a Returning Officer and decided to conduct them on Wednesday between 7 am and 6 pm.
The opposition parties including Congress, Samajwadi Party and others too had demanded fresh polling in several polling stations in Kairana and Bhandara-Gondiya.
The commission had yesterday said placing the VVPAT machines under direct light, mishandling and extreme heat could have been responsible for the high failure rate.
