A Christian organisation which has been operating in India for the past 48 years will close operations after it was suspected that it was indulging in religious conversions. The Colarado-based Christian charity which was providing medical care and tuition payments will stop operations according to a New York Times report.

Religious conversions: Centre shuts down Christian organisation

The report stated that Charity has denied the allegation that it was funding religious conversions in India. The Home Ministry had suggested that Compassion International re-register its Indian partners as religious entities. Charity's legal team, however, refused to do so on the ground that it would lead to further paralysis.

The report states that 15,000 out of the 145,000 Indian children receiving services through Compassion International have been severed from the programmes. The sponsors would be contacted individually and told to transfer their sponsors from Indian children to children from other countries, the report also states.
