On the occasion of Gudi Padwa, Bharatiya Janata Party MLA Mangal Lodha on Tuesday yet again requested the government to demolish Jinnah House -- the Malabar Hill bungalow, where Pakistan's founder Muhammad Ali Jinnah resided prior to partition and open a Maharashtra culture centre in its place.

Earlier, while speaking in the assembly, Lodha had demanded the South court to demolish the Jinnah hosuing, terming it as symbol of partition.

Lodha suggested, "Before Independence, a conspiracy was hatched to divide the country into three pieces in Jinnah House. As per the Enemy Property Act, it has become the government's property.".

Parliament recently passed the Enemy Property Bill, 2016 which says successors of those who migrated to Pakistan during Partition will have no claim over the properties left behind in India. There are some who argue that it vilifies anyone who was unfortunate enough to have had an ancestor who migrated to Pakistan. That the sins of the father are being inflicted upon the son. Here is one such argument.

Jinnah, a lawyer and politician, was the leader of the All-India Muslim League from 1913 until the creation of Pakistan on 14 August 1947. He was Pakistan's first governor-general until his death. He is revered in the neighbouring country as Qayid-i-Azam and Baba-i-Qaum. He passed away on September 11, 1948, at the age of 71.
