Rawat meets Irani, demands NIFT for state
Rawat has also urged the Centre to approve a seven-year, World Bank-aided project worth Rs 714 crore to boost agriculture.
New Delhi, April 24: Uttarakhand Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat on Monday met Union Textiles Minister Smriti Irani and demanded that a National Institute of Fashion Technology, NIFT be set up in the state.
"I have demanded an NIFT for Uttarakhand. We also had discussions over possible textile-related projects that could be started in the state," Rawat told reporters after the meeting in Delhi.
Earlier in the day, Rawat met Union Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh. During the meeting, he sought a Rs 500-crore assistance package from the Centre on the lines of the compensation given to Jammu and Kashmir, citing the massive damage caused by a cloudburst in 2013 as well as by droughts and rains.
