Rat poison was allegedly mixed in the water supply at a madrasa in Uttar Pradesh's Aligarh district that is run by wife of former Vice President Hamid Ansari.

The Madrassa Chacha Nehru, headed by Salma Ansari, was housing around 4000 students but fortunately, no untoward incident happened.

The police have registered an FIR in the case under the section 328 (causing hurt by the means of poison) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code.

A student is believed to have seen two unidentified men pouring some substance into the water cooler kept near the gate of the madrasa. One of the men threatened the boy with a country-made pistol to stay quiet.

According to a report published in the Times of India, a student of Madrassa spotted two men mixing some tablet-like material in the water tanks. The assailants, showing a pistol, threatened the student to keep quite when asked what they were doing.

Salma Ansari, chairperson of Al Noor Charitable Society, which runs the madarsa, condemned the act. Had not the boy not come down & seen them, consequences would have been terrible, she said.

The incident has been reported a month after Hamid Ansari during his last days in office stated that there is "a sense of insecurity" creeping in among the Muslims in India.
