Rape convict who jumped parole nabbed
Chandigarh, Oct 5: The Punjab police today nabbed a convict who jumped parole in January, while serving life sentence for raping a German woman in 2008.
Harpreet Singh and four others were sentenced to life for the gang-rape and were serving their jail term in Patiala Central Jail, police said.

Harpreet, granted parole for 42 days before his appeal was heard by the Punjab and Haryana High Court, did not report to the jail authority after his furlough ended on January 2. The high court rejected Harpreet's appeal on July 22 and ordered Chandigarh IGP to constitute a special team to apprehend him.
Harpreet was today nabbed when he, along with his friend Onkar Singh, was moving from Ambala to Mohali in a stolen car, police said in a release, adding he would be produced before court tomorrow. A German woman was kidnapped and gang raped by the accused when she had come to India to attend the marriage of her friend in September 2008.
