Bangalore, June 5: Uttar Pradesh (UP) has turned a rape-capital in the country. Women have become common victims of lusts of men in the state. Everyday the country woke up with news of rape in different parts of UP. While women in other states too are unsafe, rapists seem to have been enjoying the encouragement which they received from the irresponsible statements of the political leaders of the state.

Beginning from UP CM Akhilesh Yadav to Samajwadi Party supremo Mulayam Singh, Abu Azmi to Ramgopal Yadav -- the leaders faced tremendous criticism over their shocking statements on increasing crime against women. Despite all hullabaloos and media reactions, the leaders seem to have not taken any lesson and have not changed their stand on the issue.

Following the steps of their prominent leaders and high command, another Samajwadi Party (SP) leader Mohsin Khan gave an insensitive statement. Khan said that rapes are natural in such a big state. He also accused the media of not highlighting such incidents in other parts of the country.

In an another shocking statement, Home Minister of Madhya Pradesh Babulal Gaur on Thursday, June 5 said that rape incidents could not be prevented.

Criticising SP leaders for their speeches on rape cases in the country, BJP minister Uma Bharti said, "It's true that rapes are happening all over India but difference is that in UP state Govt gives comments supporting rapists."

Meanwhile, BJP leader Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said that the Akhilesh Yadav-led SP government is handling incidents of rape with a casual approach. The BJP leader demanded strict action against those involved in such horrific crimes.

Here are what Akhilesh, Mulayam and other SP leaders said on Rape:

Mulayam Singh Yadav: The 74-year-old leader earlier had shocked the world with his statement in which he had said, "Should rape cases be punished with hanging? They are boys, they make mistakes."

Now, the former UP CM snapped at reporters when they brought up law and order in the state, saying, "You do your work, I will do mine".

Akhilesh Yadav: Whena woman journalist asked Akhilesh about the law and order situation in Uttar Pradesh to which he had said, "I hope you have not faced any danger!"

When the journalist replied in the negative, the chief minister said, "Thank you. You should propagate this." The CM also tried to divert media's attention from UP while saying, When such incidents occur, it is publicised a lot. Such incidents don't occur only in UP and if I give you statistics across the country you will again ask me questions. It's Google era. If you go online and check you will see where else such incidents occur."

Ramgopal Yadav: The SP leader, Akhilesh Yadav's uncle, said, "In many places, when the relationship between girls and boys come out in open, it is termed as rape. In many places, girls and boys are ready (to marry) but honour killings take place. The most saddening and serious thing is that such incidents are not stopping. These incidents happen in other places also but are not highlighted."

Abu Azmi: SP chief in Maharashtra unit Azam Khan irked women and others while stating, "Under Islam, rape is punishable... any woman if, whether married or unmarried, goes along with a man, with or without her consent, should be hanged. Both should be hanged. It shouldn't be allowed even if a woman goes by consent."

However, later he had tried to clarify his stand. He had said, "I never said that the girl who is raped should be punished. I said rapist should be punished and girl is a victim. I said that all of us should show solidarity with the girl."

"I will never make such statement, only a mad person will say such things," he added.
