Rajasthan: ACB busted international spoof call gang, arrested Ex-MLA's grandson

Posing as an ACB officer, Sahil Rajpal, grandson of former MLA Radheshyam, had demanded Rs 10 lakh from Public Health Engineering Department engineers for settling a fraud case in which they were allegedly involved, senior officials said.

He had also allegedly taken Rs 1.5 lakh from the complainant, Inspector General, ACB, Sachin Mittal told PTI. IG Mittal said this is perhaps the first case in Rajasthan where "spoof calls" were made using international gateway internet calling.

"We were chasing the accused since February and had contacted telecom companies of nine countries to nab him," Mittal said.

Superintendent of Police, ACB, Tejaswini Gautam said the accused is an English (Honours) graduate and was arrested from the MLA quarters in Jaipur. She said Rajpal is being interrogated for his role in similar crimes committed in past and others involved in the activities.

Rajpal will be produced before the court tomorrow, she said. ACB sleuths said that the accused had made calls to SPML Company, a complaint of which was lodged with CBI.

In the much-talked about SPML Company fraud case, names of PHED engineers and senior officers of the company had cropped up. The case was investigated by ACB officer Shankar Dutt Sharma. Rajpal, posing as Sharma, had called PHED engineers and SPML officers, the police said.
